The domestic markets started on Wednesday with a major fall. The market is also awaiting the election results coming on May 23.
Due to weak global sentiment, rupee has also seen a weakness of 16 paise. Other Asian markets are also weak China slipped 1.4 percent, Hong Kong 1.12 percent and Japan's Nikkei 1.5 percent down.
At 9.30 am, the BSE Sensex dipped 197 points or 0.52 percent and started trading at 38,063 level. At the same time, the Nifty 50 Index was down 60 points or 0.52 per cent to record at 11,438.
On Tuesday, a large number of sales were seen in the US stock exchanges. Dow Jones slipped down to 1.79 percent. While the S & P 500 index dipped 1.65 percent. Nasdaq composites ended the session with a fall of 1.96 percent.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap Index recorded a decline of 0.35 percent. Index of all sectors on BSE were trading with red mark. Energy and consumer durable index dipped more than 1-F per cent.

At the BSE Sensex, Vedanta's shares plummeted 2.85 percent to Rs 158.75. ONGC shares touched a low of Rs 169.25 with weakness of 1.28 per cent. Shares of Bajaj Finance, Hindustan Unilever and Reliance Industries fell 1.2 per cent, 1.13 per cent and 1.12 per cent, respectively.
On the other hand, Power Grid shares increased by 0.50 per cent to Rs 192.55. HCL Technologies shares rose by 0.47% to Rs 1,132. The shares of ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank and Sun Pharma rose 0.45 percent, 0.14 percent and 0.10 percent, respectively.
